Under the influence of the "lack of core" in the past few years, countries are seeking to strengthen semiconductor production, such as the European Commission to allocate 15 billion euros for public and private semiconductor projects by 2030. In the past two years, information on the expansion of automotive chip makers has come one after another, and the "core" ball game is non-stop, with big spending that makes people sigh.

As a global automotive chip leader, Infineon announced on February 19, 2023, the company received approval to invest 5 billion euros to build a semiconductor plant in Dresden, Germany, and start production in 2026.
Infineon already has two 12-inch fabs, and this 12-inch fab is the largest single investment in Infineon's history. The new plant will produce analogue/mixed-signal components for automotive and industrial applications, such as automotive motor control units, energy-efficient charging systems, etc. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, as well as the relevant regulatory authorities, have given the green light for the project to start ahead of schedule. Infineon is reportedly seeking €1 billion in public funding for the new plant and claims it will create around 1,000 jobs.
Also a chip powerhouse, Texas Instruments is holding a groundbreaking ceremony for a 12-inch semiconductor chip plant in Sherman, Texas, in mid-2022. The $30 billion investment includes four chip fabs and is expected to create up to 3,000 direct jobs, with the first chip fab at the new Sherman site due to come online in 2025.
At the time, Texas Instruments Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Rich Templeton said that the location would provide a solid foundation for the future growth of the electronics industry and semiconductors to support the needs of customers for decades to come. "Texas Instruments creates a better world through advanced semiconductors that catalyse affordable and efficient electronics. We are proud to have a strong foothold in Sherman and to introduce advanced 12-inch chip manufacturing technology."
The new facility will join an existing lineup of 12-inch chip fabs, including DMOS6 in Dallas, Texas, and RFAB1 and RFAB2 in Richardson, Texas, and will be designed to meet the building's certified Advanced Rating for Structural Efficiency and Durability, also known as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold, with equipment and processes that will reduce waste, water and energy consumption. water and energy consumption.
The world's number one manufacturer of dedicated analogue and power conversion chips, ST is also a supplier of industrial semiconductors and set-top box chips, and has its roots in discrete devices, mobile phone camera modules and automotive ICs. Previously, STMicroelectronics said it planned to build a new factory in Italy and create around 700 new jobs. The European Commission had said that it had approved the allocation of 292.5 million euros (approximately RMB 2.056 billion) for the project.
Financial data showed that ST's net revenue for the first half of 2022 was US$7.38 billion (approximately RMB52.25 billion), up 22.9 per cent year-on-year, with sales growth in all product divisions and sub-divisions; operating profit margin of 25.5 per cent and net profit of US$1.61
