TSMC announced its April revenue report yesterday, reporting consolidated revenue of approximately NT$147.9 billion for April 2023, an increase of 1.7% from the previous month and a decrease of 14.3% from the same month last year.
TSMC's cumulative revenue from January to April was approximately NT$656.5 billion, a decrease of 1.1% from the same period last year.
TSMC previously reported consolidated revenue of approximately NT$145.4 billion in March, down 10.9% from February, which had hit a 17-month low. Q1 consolidated revenue was approximately NT$508.6 billion, up 3.6% from last year and down 18.7% from the previous quarter.
Its Q1 net profit rose to NT$206.9 billion from NT$202.7 billion a year ago, above Refinitiv's 21 analysts' average estimate of NT$192.8 billion. Among them, 5nm process shipments accounted for 31% of TSMC's Q1 2023 wafer sales; 7nm process shipments accounted for 20% of the full quarter's wafer sales. Revenue from advanced processes (including 7nm and more advanced processes) reached 51% of wafer sales for the full quarter.
TSMC executives believe that the market is "bottoming out" in the quarter and expect overall destocking to end in the second half of the year, with smartphone and PC demand expected to remain "weak" throughout 2023. TSMC will use 3nm volume production in the second half of the year to drive demand back up.
