On August 7, Infineon Technologies AG extended its comprehensive and proven MOTIX™ MCU embedded power IC portfolio with the introduction of the TLE988x and TLE989x families. By integrating the gate driver, microcontroller, communication interface and power supply on a single chip, Infineon's system-on-chip solutions enable the smallest possible footprint.

The new TLE988x and TLE989x series offer higher performance and utilize CAN (FD) as communication interface. These ICs are compliant with the AEC Q-100 standard and are ideally suited for automotive brushed DC and brushless DC motor control applications in body, comfort and thermal management applications.
With fast and very powerful on-chip CAN FD transceivers for host communication, the new MOTIX MCU family of embedded power ICs meets customer demand for the smallest integrated smart motor control solution," said Andreas Doll, senior vice president and general manager of Infineon Smart Power. The new product family also offers about 60 percent more processing power compared to the proven TLE987x product family and provides functional safety and cybersecurity features that are important for fuel pumps in electric vehicle thermal management systems."
The new devices use B4 or B6 bridge N-channel MOSFET drivers, Arm® Cortex® M3 microcontrollers, and CAN (FD) controllers and transceivers supporting 2 Mbps communication speeds, respectively. Customers benefit not only from fast and robust communication, but also from the highest computing performance with the high system frequency (60 MHz) and its dual Flash memory supporting read-while-write operations. The new products are compliant with ISO 26262 (ASIL B) and some versions have built-in cybersecurity features. All of these devices are available in 7 mm x 7 mm TQFP packages with market-leading footprints.
The MOTIX MCU TLE988x 2-phase bridge driver family and the MOTIX MCU TLE989x 3-phase bridge driver family include a variety of devices that are available in Flash sizes up to 256 kB and support a temperature range up to 175°C (T j max). In addition, these ICs feature Infineon's patented adaptive MOSFET control algorithm, which compensates for variations in the system's MOSFET parameters by automatically adjusting the gate current to achieve the desired switching. The system can thus be optimized in terms of EMI (electromagnetic emissions, slow conversion rates) and power consumption (short dead time). Adaptive MOSFET control also enables supply chain flexibility by maintaining the same switching behavior across variations in MOSFET production lots or differences between MOSFET suppliers.
To accelerate the evaluation and design process, the MOTIX MCU embedded power ICs are rounded off by a comprehensive ecosystem of software, evaluation boards and kits, as well as a wide range of tools for simulation, configuration and visualization. Infineon also offers a 150 W coolant pump reference design. In addition to example and demo software, Infineon offers a comprehensive stack of commercial software products covering automotive ASPICE-grade qualified motor control libraries (including FOC algorithms).
