Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced that its automotive cybersecurity management system (CSMS) for microcontroller (MCU) and system-on-chip (SoC) development has been defined and implemented in accordance with the international standard ISO/SAE 21434:2021.The CSMS framework applies to Renesas Electronics' design center in Musashi, Japan and has been certified by TüV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH. has been certified by TüV Rheinland Industrie Service GmbH.

The certification reaffirms Renesas Electronics' commitment to Tier 1 suppliers and automotive manufacturers (OEMs) that Renesas Electronics will continue to fulfill its CSMS responsibilities to assist automakers in obtaining vehicle type approvals in accordance with the requirements of the recent
United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) UNR155 regulation. As stated in an earlier press release, all Renesas Electronics automotive-grade MCUs and SoCs developed after January 1, 2022 will follow the certified ISO/SAE 21434:2021 Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) development process, including the 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs, as well as the popular R-Car SoC product family The CSMS development process includes 16-bit RL78 and 32-bit RH850 MCUs as well as the popular R-Car SoC product family.

With independent third-party certification, customers can be confident that Renesas Electronics' management of the CSMS process meets the requirements defined by ISO/SAE 21434:2021," said Takashi Yasuzo, Vice President of the HPC Core Technology Division at Renesas. OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers are able to leverage this type of independent third-party certification to streamline their model approval process without having to conduct their own audits of our processes."
Renesas Electronics has made significant contributions to the development of the ISO/SAE 21434:2021 standard globally, and its commitment and dedication to cybersecurity extends beyond the automotive industry. In 2019, Renesas Electronics was certified by TüV Rheinland for compliance with the IEC 62443-4-1 standard. This standard defines the process requirements for the safe development of industrial products.
Renesas Electronics continues to develop safe and reliable products for its customers. The ISO/SAE 21434:2021 certification is the latest achievement for Renesas Electronics in automotive-grade MCUs and SoCs, following the ISO 26262 certification. Customers can be assured that when using Renesas Electronics MCUs and SoCs in next-generation in-vehicle systems, they will be compliant with international standards for product cybersecurity and functional safety.
