After the birth of Kirin 9000S, Huawei will stop buying Qualcomm chips: the new models fully use their own new Kirin processors

On October 4, the Huawei Kirin 9000S process attracted foreign media attention, but in any case, this is an extraordinary feat with a far-reaching impact. According to the previous investigation by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at Tianfeng International Securities, Huawei purchased 2,300-25 million and 4,000-42 million mobile phone SoC chips from Qualcomm in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
However, Huawei is expected to stop buying Qualcomm chips from 2024, and the new models will fully adopt the new Kirin processor of its own design. As a result, Qualcomm will not only completely lose Huawei's orders, but also face the risk of non-Huawei Chinese brands losing shipments due to Huawei's growing mobile phone market share. It is expected that Qualcomm's SoC shipments to Chinese mobile phone brands in 2024 will be reduced by at least 5,000-60 million units compared to 2023 due to Huawei's adoption of new Kirin processors, and it is expected to continue to decrease year by year. Huawei will stop buying Qualcomm chips, resulting in lower-than-expected 3nm demand for Qualcomm in 2024. Dutch lithography giant ASML may significantly reduce its extreme ultraviolet lithography machine (EUV) shipment forecast by about 20-30%25.
Recently, Stephen Perry, chairman of the 48 Group Club in the United Kingdom, said the United States has been "crazy" lately and wants to know how Huawei makes (new chips). "I think this idea is a sad misunderstanding of the real world, and you block the chip, it will only motivate the Chinese to make their own chips faster." Peter Wennink, CEO of Dutch lithography giant ASML, recently told local TV show Nieuwsuur that there is no hope of completely isolating China. If we don't share technology, they will do their own research. "There are 1.40 billion people in China, and there are a lot of smart people who can think of solutions that we didn't think of, "he said. And we are too self-righteous."
