ARM's Server Chip Roadmap

There are three waves of Arm server chips. The first wave was the use of companies like Calxeda, Applied Micro, AMD, Marvell, Nvidia, and Samsung, but it's not looking good so far. The second wave is companies like Broadcom, Cavium, Qualcomm and Nuvia.

In the third wave of Arm server chip research and development, hyperscalers, cloud service providers (including Amazon Cloud Technology, Microsoft, Google, Alibaba and Tencent) and some independent chip designers (mainly Ampere Computing, HiSilicon, NVIDIA and SiPearl) ) have cooperated with Arm. It looks like this server chip expedition around the Arm architecture will continue.
Neoverse designed the Arm core from the ground up with the features necessary to take on server workloads, L2 cache, mesh interconnects, and more powerful transistors. Based on the core complex formed by various elements, the Neoverse reference architecture allows chip designers to flexibly access DDR memory, PCI-Express peripherals and network interface controllers of their choice, greatly reducing the cost of server chips. Self-design risk. That is to say, as long as they hold the Arm architecture license, manufacturers can freely choose whether to develop their own customized Arm cores based on Neoverse's reference solution.
At that time, Neoverse made a commitment to its own reference platform, saying that it would develop a new set of Arm server platforms every year, and each upgrade would improve performance by at least 30%.
This is a simplified roadmap to create Arm architecture-based CPUs with 4 to 128 core bandwidths and gigabytes to megabytes of memory bandwidth per second for computing from the edge to the cloud data center need.
In September 2020, with the creation of the V-Series (fat vectors emphasizing floating-point computing), the N-Series (with high-throughput integer performance), and the E-Series (designed to provide energy efficiency for modest computing needs), the Neoverse roadmap was More comprehensive expansion and enrichment.
As a product that is likely to grab the N-series jobs in 5G and some network application scenarios, Arm chose the Cortex-A510 core for the E-series, which is the successor of the Cortex A55, mainly for smart watches, various consumer devices and smartphones. Wait.
