On August 9, according to foreign media reports, Apple, Samsung Electronics, Nvidia and Intel all plan to buy shares in SoftBank's chip design company Arm when it goes public in September. Arm plays an integral role in the technology industry, licensing its chip design to more than 500 companies, including Apple, and 95%25 of the world's smartphones use Arm architecture.

In 2016, SoftBank Group bought Arm for $32 billion. At present, the group controls about 75%25 of Arm shares, with the remaining 25%25 held by SoftBank's Vision Fund, which intends to sell 10%25 to 15%25 of Arm shares in the market, which may make room for companies such as Apple to invest. On September 13, 2020, SoftBank Group announced that it would sell Arm to Nvidia in a deal valued at $40 billion. However, the deal ultimately fell through due to major regulatory challenges and opposition from competitors.
Arm announced plans to go public after Nvidia's $40 billion deal failed. In an interview last September, CEO Rene Haas said he decided to file for an IPO because the company "started moving into other markets," such as licensing chip designs for cloud computing products.
SoftBank plans to list Arm on Nasdaq in September with an expected valuation of more than $60 billion, which would make it the world's largest IPO this year, sources said. The group will file a listing application with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) later in August, followed by Nasdaq approval for the official IPO.
As part of the IPO, Arm apparently wants major chipmakers to become medium- and long-term shareholders, selling them a few percentage points each, while chipmakers hope to influence Arm's management by holding shares in Arm, the media said.
