Nov. 2, 2011 - IAR, a global leader in embedded development software and services, announced that its latest release of IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm 9.40.2 seamlessly integrates support for Renesas RA8 MCUs, providing a complete solution for development of the RA8 family of Arm® Cortex®-M85-based chips. RA8 family of chips based on the Arm® Cortex®-M85.

Renesas' RA8 series is the first MCU to feature the Arm Cortex-M85 processor and Arm Helium technology for enhanced DSP and AI/ML functionality. The first RA8M1 series chips to hit the market are now shipping in volume. the RA8 MCUs offer extensive low-voltage support and include a variety of low-power modes. In RTC mode, current consumption can be as low as 0.5µA. Coremark performance tests of up to 6.39 make it one of the most powerful microcontrollers available today and can be scaled to applications beyond microcontrollers. the RA8 family also includes best-in-class hardware and software security features, including advanced cryptographic acceleration, Trust Zone, and anti-tamper protection.
IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm is a complete development tool chain known for its features that accelerate embedded development and enhance security. It includes the highly optimized IAR C/C++ compiler and advanced debugging capabilities, and is also equipped with the code analysis tools IAR C-STAT and IAR C-RUN. the latest version of IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm introduces the PACBTI extension, which provides robust defenses against return-oriented programming (ROP) and jump-oriented programming (JOP) attacks, eliminating tampering. Programming (JOP) attacks, eliminating software vulnerabilities that can be exploited.
Developers looking to take full advantage of the high performance and reliable security features of the Renesas RA8 need an equally powerful suite of development tools, and IAR Embedded Workbench for Arm is the perfect choice," said Andy Beeson, product manager at Renesas. IAR is a trusted partner in the Renesas tool ecosystem, and now our customers can quickly jumpstart the development of RA8 MCU-based designs with IAR's tools."
We are pleased to be the first company in the world to provide complete tool support for the new Renesas RA8 family," said Anders Holmberg, CTO of IAR. Based on the superior performance and security offered by the RA8 MCUs, IAR's tools ensure that embedded developers can fully utilize these features to develop their AI and ML applications."
