In static switching applications, power supply design focuses on minimizing conduction losses, optimizing thermal performance, and enabling compact and lightweight system designs while achieving high quality at low cost. To meet the needs of next-generation solutions, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE code: IFX/OTCQX code: IFNNY) is expanding its line-up of CoolMOS S7 Series High Voltage Superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs.
This series of devices is mainly suitable for switching power supplies (SMPS), solar systems, battery protection, solid state relays (SSR), motor starters and solid state circuit breakers as well as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), lighting control, high voltage electronic fuses/electronic circuit breakers and (hybrid) electric vehicle onboard chargers and other applications.
The product portfolio has been significantly expanded with the addition of the innovative QDPAK top-cooled (TSC) package, which enables a wealth of functionality in a smaller package size. These features make the device extremely advantageous in low frequency switching applications while reducing costs. Thanks to the new high-power QDPAK package, the on-resistance value of this device is only 10 mΩ, which is the lowest value among products of the same voltage class on the market and products in SMD packages. CoolMOS S7/S7A improves overall efficiency by minimizing the loss of MOSFET products and provides an easy-to-use and cost-effective way to improve system performance.
The CoolMOS S7 power switch also effectively manages heat dissipation with improved thermal resistance, making the system more compact and lightweight by reducing or even eliminating the need for heat sinks in solid-state designs by adopting an innovative, efficient QDPAK package. Available in both top and bottom cooling packages, this series of MOSFET products can withstand high pulse currents and respond to sudden surge currents. In addition, this series of MOSFET products has the robustness of body diodes to ensure reliable operation during AC line reversals.
With fewer components required, the CoolMOS S7 series of high voltage superjunction (SJ) MOSFETs reduce the number of components, allowing flexible system integration, reducing BOM (Bill of Materials) costs and total cost of ownership (TCO). At the same time, this series of MOSFET products can also shorten the reaction time, especially when the current is turned off, allowing smoother and more efficient operation.
