Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the industry's first LPDDR flash memory, SEMPER™ X1, to support next-generation automotive E/E architectures. This LPDDR flash memory provides secure, reliable and real-time code execution for automotive domains and area controllers.

With eight times the performance of current NOR flash and two times faster random read transaction processing for real-time applications, the flash enables software-defined vehicles to deliver advanced features with enhanced security and architectural flexibility.
As automotive requirements for intelligence, connectivity and complexity, as well as safety and reliability, continue to increase, next-generation vehicles will need to rely more on multi-core processors developed on advanced manufacturing processes. At these advanced nodes, higher density embedded non-volatile memory is no longer a viable cost option, and system architects need to consider using external NORs for code storage. However, these complex automotive real-time processors require higher performance, far beyond the memory available in the market
To meet this need, Infineon developed the SEMPER X1 with an LPDDR4 interface running at 3.2 GBytes/sec and a multi-group architecture to meet the performance and density requirements of domain and area controllers.
We are pleased to introduce the SEMPER X1 LPDDR flash memory and see a promising future for secure, reliable and real-time flash memory for area controllers," said Sandeep Krishnegowda, vice president of marketing and applications, Infineon Flash Solutions. As the market leader in NOR flash automotive memory, we are excited to work with our industry partners to drive memory standardization and bring it to a broader market."
Infineon SEMPER X1 is the industry's first LPDDR flash memory, ideally suited for next-generation automotive domain and area controllers running safety-critical real-time applications. Delivering up to 3.2 GBytes/sec throughput through its LPDDR interface, the SEMPER X1 supports fast random read transactions for real-time code execution. With its multi-bank architecture, it also supports wireless firmware updates with zero downtime. The flash is ISO26262 ASIL-B compliant and offers advanced error correction and other security features.
