Infineon introduces PROFET Load Guard 12V, a new automotive intelligent high-side power switch portfolio

        Infineon Technologies AG introduces the new automotive intelligent high-side power switch portfolio PROFET™ Load Guard 12V, which combines adjustable overcurrent limiting and capacitive load switching (CLS) modes to flexibly respond to the diverse requirements of modern secondary power distribution and provide protection mechanisms for safety-critical ADAS integration. and provides protection mechanisms for safety-critical ADAS integration.
 
 
        The new PROFET Load Guard 12V dual and single channel devices offer a wide current limiting range between 0.3 and 8.7 A, depending on R DS (ON). This feature allows to set the protection level according to the system requirements without the involvement of the microcontroller. The new product avoids peak currents that endanger the load and provides fast fault isolation on the distribution side in case of overloads due to load faults, e.g. in sensor fusion boxes. Loads with high capacitance shares, such as ADAS or display modules, can also be turned on quickly using the device's capacitive load switching (CLS) mode. 
        CLS mode allows charging for a few millifarads while remaining within the safe operating area (SOA) of the intelligent high-side power switch, thus improving overall system robustness. In addition, PRO SIL™ devices that meet ISO26262 provide Safety-Application-Note, simplifying the use of functional safety-related applications. In addition, best-in-class low current detection accuracy enables accurate module diagnostics and monitoring. 
        The wide operating voltage range of the PROFET Load Guard 12V series from 3 V (start-up: 2.7 V) to 28 V, combined with adjustable overcurrent limit and CLS mode, provides maximum load flexibility. If load or system requirements change, such as variant handling, the analog overcurrent limit thresholds can be easily adapted to the new conditions. Specific operation is achieved by simply changing the resistor connected to the OCT pin. In addition to flexibility, this feature allows hardware-based line protection for time-independent loads. the CLS mode further extends the load potential and responds to an increasing number of capacitive loads, such as modules. 
        The series is rated from 2A to 3 A and consists of two 90 mΩ and two 50 mΩ devices, both used as single- and dual-channel automotive smart high-side power switches. The series is available in the PG-TS-DSO-14 package, which provides a high degree of compatibility with other SMART7 devices such as PROFET +2 12V. Loads with high capacitance shares can be easily solved with the integrated CLS mode, allowing large capacitors to be charged quickly within the safe operating area (SOA) of the PROFET Load Guard 12V. The best-in-class high current detection accuracy tolerance (kILIS) in the low current range allows for highly accurate current detection. 
        To support the design process of PROFET Load Guard 12V devices, the series is integrated into the PROFET Guard Tool, which is now available at the Infineon Developer Center. The tool supports the evaluation of the system protection capability of PROFET Load Guard 12V devices with a given wire and load profile. It also calculates the correct resistance value for adjustable overcurrent limiting.
