The MOTIX™ family, developed by Infineon Technologies AG for automotive and industrial motor control applications, offers a broad portfolio of chips with different levels of integration. To further expand its product portfolio, Infineon has launched the MOTIX three-phase gate driver IC 6ED2742S01Q, a 160 V silicon on insulator (SOI) gate driver with an integrated power management unit (PMU) and a QFN-32 package with exposed pads on the bottom for good thermal conductivity. Thanks to this, the semiconductor device is easy to integrate and well suited for a wide range of battery-powered industrial brushless DC (BLDC) motor control drivers, including cordless power tools, robots, drones and light electric vehicles (LEVs).

The 6ED2742S01Q has an integrated bootstrap diode for charging an external high-side bootstrap capacitor, a trickle charge circuit and support for 100% duty cycle. Key protection features include, undervoltage lockout, overcurrent protection with configurable thresholds, fault communication and automatic fault clearing. The output driver has a large pulse current buffer stage while minimising the risk of bridge arm feed-through. The DC component of VSS or COM can be added optionally during current detection amplification.
The MOTIX gate driver can directly drive both high and low side gate channels, supports pull currents up to 1A and fill currents up to 2A and has an independent under voltage lockout (UVLO) function. The device has a propagation delay of 100 ns, a minimum dead time of 100 ns and a built-in delay matching function. The exposed pads on the bottom of the QFN-32 package greatly reduce thermal resistance and ensure reliable operation.
The MOTIX 6ED2742S01Q is rated for operation from -40°C to 125°C and can easily drive single or multiple paralleled OptiMOS™ and StrongIRFET™ MOSFETs. The driver supports battery voltages from 10.8 V to 120 V.
