On the evening of October 18, Apple launched a new generation of iPad Pro, with 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes, starting at $6,799 for the 11-inch wireless LAN version and $7,999 for the cellular version. By comparing with the previous generation, it is easy to see that the biggest difference between iPad Pro 11 inches and the previous generation is the chip, the former equipped with Apple M2 processor.
It is reported that the Apple M2 uses an 8-core central processor, consisting of four performance cores and four energy-efficient cores, integrated 10-core graphics processor and 16-core neural network engine, based on TSMC's improved second-generation 5nm process to build. In contrast, Apple's M1 chip also uses an 8-core CPU with an integrated 8-core GPU, based on TSMC's first-generation 5nm process.
In addition, the specifications of the two parameters are almost the same, are 11-inch LCD screen, are equipped with 12 million wide angle + 10 million ultra-wide angle camera, height, width, thickness and weight are identical.
Notably, the new 11-inch iPad Pro supports the Apple Pencil hover feature, which allows the system to detect the stylus when it is slightly above the screen, allowing users to sketch and illustrate with greater precision.
The new iPad Pro will be available for order at 9 a.m. on Oct. 20 and will go on sale Oct. 26. The iPad is equipped with the A14 Bionic chip, a processor first used in Apple's iPhone 12 series. The chip is made by TSMC's 5nm process, with a 6-core CPU design that improves performance by 40% over the A12 chip, and a 4-core GPU design that improves performance by over 30% over the A12 chip. And the A14 is equipped with a new 16-core Neural Engine, which doubles the number of cores compared to its predecessor and processes up to 11 trillion operations per second, thus making this chip a breakthrough in machine learning performance.
