On October 11, it was reported that MediaTek today released a new mid-range chip Tianji 1080. Compared with the previous generation Tianji 920, Tianji 1080 brings higher performance, better efficiency and stronger camera capability.

MediaTek said: "Tianji 1080 continues the performance and energy efficiency technology advantages of MediaTek's 5G mobile platform, provides a variety of advanced functions, and better meets users' expectations for 5G smartphones. MediaTek's latest Tianji 1080 further enhances its performance in performance, image, display, and other aspects, helping the terminal to quickly reach the mass market."
The most important change here is the camera capability of the chip. The new Tianji 1080 can process image data from sensors through the Imagiq ISP, with a maximum of 200MP pixels (previously 108MP), and supports four cameras. Tianji 1080 also integrates hardware level 4K HDR video recording engine to provide better dark light shooting effect.
The performance of this 5G chip is slightly updated, with eight core CPU and two ARM Cortex-A78 cores, and the frequency is up to 2.6GHz. Six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency up to 2GHz. GPU is still Mali-G68, which can provide a smoother experience in games, streaming media playback, web page reading and other applications. It also supports LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 enclosures. Tianji 1080 is still manufactured with TSMC's 6nm process, which has good energy efficiency performance and can extend the battery life of smart phones. In terms of performance, the benchmark score may not rise significantly compared with the device running the previous generation chip.
Tianji 1080 is equipped with MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 game engine, which can bring high performance and low latency game experience. With the help of MediaTek's third generation APU, the platform energy efficiency during game playing can be further optimized. In addition, Tianji 1080 supports Sub-6GHz 5G full band high-speed network and Wi Fi 6 connection.
Smartphones using MediaTek Tianji 1080 5G mobile platform are expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
