MediaTek's First VR Chip to Power Sony PSVR2

During the MediaTek Executive Summit, the company announced that it will be providing the SoC (System-on-Chip) for the upcoming PSVR2. While it didn't provide many details, it was on hand to show off the PSVR2 in real life. While MediaTek processors are present in many other types of devices, this will be the first time a MediaTek processor has been featured in a VR headset.
While this is good news, it's not exactly surprising news. Back in May this year, industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the PSVR2 would be powered by MediaTek processors. This is a big step for the company, especially considering that other standalone and connected VR headsets utilise Qualcomm chips to power them.
Last week, Sony announced that its PSVR2 will be available for pre-order on November 15 and officially on February 22, 2023. The price of the device varies by region, but in the US it will cost $549.99.
