Qualcomm recently released a new entry-level mobile chipset, Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which will upgrade from the previous generation's 6nm process to a 4nm process, giving a significant boost to low-end smartphones.

The new chip uses Qualcomm's Kryo CPU, which peaks at 2.2 GHz, a 10 percent increase from the previous generation. In addition, it supports fast charging technology, which Qualcomm says can get 50% of the power in just 15 minutes of charging.
Compared to the first-generation Snapdragon 4 released in September last year, Qualcomm  upgraded its manufacturing process from TSMC 6nm to Samsung 4nm this time-the second-generation Snapdragon 8, the second-generation Snapdragon 7 +, and the first-generation Snapdragon 6 are also 4nm.
The CPU part is still dual-core A78 and six-core A55, but the frequency has been increased from 2.0 + 1.8GHz to 2.2 + 2.0GHz. Interestingly, the first generation Snapdragon 6 is also a combination of A78 and A55, but it is four-core plus four-core, and the frequency is 2.2GHz and 1.8GHz. This means that the small core of the second-generation Snapdragon 4 is even faster than that of the first-generation Snapdragon 6.
The platform supports FHD+120Hz displays and features camera upgrades including electronic image stabilization, faster autofocus, and better anti-blur performance. In addition, the chipset even offers multi-camera time filtering (MCTF) to reduce video noise.
Of course, as a modern product for 2023, it mainly focuses on AI upgrades, especially in terms of cameras, providing more functions, such as using artificial intelligence for brightness adjustment and background cancellation in low-light environments.
Qualcomm said devices with the processor will be available in the second half of 2023. According to IT Home, Xiaomi's Redmi sub-brand and phone makers such as vivo will soon adopt the chip. According to previous reports, Xiaomi may launch the Redmi Note 12R (priced from 1,099 yuan) on June 30. With the advent of this chip, we can expect even greater improvements in the performance and functionality of entry-level smartphones.
