Renesas Electronics (TSE: 6723), a global provider of semiconductor solutions, today announced the release of the RZ/T2L, a new industrial microprocessor (MPU) that supports the EtherCAT communication protocol, enabling high-speed, accurate real-time control for industrial systems. The RZ/T2L MPU inherits the hardware architecture of its high-end product RZ/T2M and brings the ideal solution for the fast growing EtherCAT communication market. The new MPU provides the high-speed and precise real-time processing performance required by AC servo drives, inverters, industrial robots, collaborative robots and more. At the same time, the chip size has been reduced by 50% compared to the RZ/T2M. The new device is ideal for a wide range of applications in factory automation (FA) as well as medical devices and building automation (BA). In these scenarios, EtherCAT is increasingly being adopted.

Accurate real-time control is critical to improving productivity and product quality in industrial systems, and our RZ/T2L makes this a reality," said Biren Paik, Vice President of the Industrial Automation Division at Renesas Electronics. With support for the rapidly expanding EtherCAT market, this product will take performance to a whole new level and accelerate the automation of factories and buildings as well as medical devices."
Norbert Weiss, Managing Director of Lauterbach GmbH, a leading supplier of debug and trace tools, said, "For decades, we have continued our commitment to providing engineers with best-in-class development tools for Renesas' latest MCUs and MPUs to enable their future-oriented embedded innovations. Thanks to our excellent partnership with Renesas Electronics, industrial users of the RZ/T2L MPU will also receive highly reliable tools as well as excellent support from the initial phase."
The RZ/T2L is equipped with an Arm® Cortex®-R52 CPU operating at up to 800 MHz and a proven EtherCAT slave controller designed by Beckhoff Automation for Ethernet communication. functions required for industrial applications. The RZ/T2L also provides peripheral functions such as multi-protocol encoder interface for angle sensors, Sigma-Delta interface, and A/D converters. These are arranged on a dedicated Low Latency Peripheral Port (LLPP) bus directly connected to the CPU for fast and accurate real-time control capability.
