ROHM (headquartered in Kyoto City, Japan), one of the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers, has launched the SMLVN6RGBFU, an RGB SMD LED*1 for automotive interiors, which is ideally suited to applications such as indicator lights*3 for displaying functions and statuses in the interior of vehicles, such as instrument clusters and CIDs (Center Information Displays), as well as decorative lighting applications, such as footlights and door handle lamps. The SMLVN6RGBFU is ideally suited for interior function and status indicators*3 such as instrument panels and CIDs (Center Information Display)*2, as well as for decorative lighting applications such as foot and door handle lights.

In recent years, as automobiles have become more electronic and diversified in their functions, various driver assistance functions such as automatic speed control, distance detection, and lane line detection have become widely used. In order to display the operating status of these functions with indicator lights on instrument panels, etc., there is a growing demand in the industry for RGB chip LEDs capable of displaying a variety of colors. There is also a growing demand for interior products that use RGB chip LEDs to create a sense of comfort and luxury in vehicle interiors. Against this backdrop, ROHM is developing RGB chip LEDs with smaller color differences by utilizing its own component technology to finely control the light-emitting characteristics of RGB components and improve color mixing performance.
In general, for RGB chip LEDs to emit light of a target color, it is necessary to have technology that precisely controls the color and brightness of the red, green, and blue (RGB) light-emitting elements, as well as technology that improves color-mixing performance, and ROHM has succeeded in suppressing chromatic aberration of the elements by utilizing a consistent production system that incorporates its superior technology at the element manufacturing stage, thereby realizing better-than-usual color performance. ROHM has succeeded in suppressing color differences in components and achieving color performance superior to that of ordinary products. In addition, the color mixing control technology of the components reduces the chromatic aberration that tends to occur in the mixing of RGB chip LEDs, helping to achieve the target colors required for automotive interiors and the like. In addition, ROHM provides support for fine color matching using a chromaticity simulation system that matches the required specifications.
The new product has been tentatively put into mass production on a scale of 300,000 units per month starting in February 2023 (sample price: 500 yen per unit, excluding tax). ROHM Hamamatsu Co., Ltd. (Hamamatsu City, Japan) is the production base for the pre-process, and ROHM Semiconductor (China) Co. In addition, e-commerce sales of the new products have begun in May 2023 and are available from e-commerce platforms such as Ameya360 and Sekorm.
In the future, ROHM will continue to develop advanced products for the automotive lighting field under the philosophy of "quality first," contributing to the creation of a safe and comfortable in-vehicle environment.
