T-Platforms, the parent company of Russian chipmaker Baikal Electronics, has declared bankruptcy and is auctioning off its assets, including intellectual property related to Baikal Electronics and more, for a total estimated value of 484 million rubles ($5 million), according to Tom's Hardware.

T-Platforms, a Russian company that planned to build tens of billions of billionth supercomputers and develop domestically produced CPUs, officially declared bankruptcy in October 2022.T-Platforms' bankruptcy proceedings have resulted in an auction of various assets, including intellectual property, patents, and Baikal Electronics' stock. Baikal Electronics is one of Russia's few CPU and system-on-chip designers.
Baikal Electronics assets are valued at $5 million, mainly because the technology being auctioned is obsolete, according to the report. For example, the Baikal -M1 processor is based on eight obsolete Arm Cortex-A57 cores running at 1.50GHz with 8MB L3 cache and an Arm Mali-T628 GPU with two display channels.Meanwhile, Baikal Electronics' 48-core Baikal-S SoCs for servers never made it to volume production.
The auction is scheduled for September 26, 2023. The current holders of Baikal Electronics have no plans to reclaim the patents or developments. The reason for this may be because the CPUs and SoCs Baikal used to develop were subsequently produced by TSMC, which can no longer work with the Russian company due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
