Oct. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Samsung Electronics recently announced that it will conduct 6G testing in the 12.7GHz-13.25GHz band within 1 kilometer of Plano, Texas, in a move to evaluate next-generation cellular devices, according to South Korea's Daily Economic News.

Samsung Electronics has reportedly applied to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for a license to use the radio frequencies, and the test will use a prototype base station and up to 32 mobile radios. In other FCC filings, Samsung has made clear its vision of using the 12.7GHz-13.25GHz band for 6G. "Initial findings indicate a significant increase in spectrum demand for 6G use cases such as XR (extended reality), holographic communications and joint communications and sensing."
As previously reported, Samsung Electronics applied for a radio frequency license for a 500-meter distance in the US state of Texas in 2021, and started 6G project trials in November of the same year.
Samsung Electronics had released a 6G white paper in July 2020 outlining the company's 6G vision of bringing the next super-connected experience to every corner of life, with 6G communications expected to be commercially available by 2028 at the earliest, and become mainstream by 2030. To accelerate research on 6G, Samsung Research Institute, an advanced R&D center in Samsung Electronics' end-products business, established the Advanced Communications Research Center in May 2019.
