The Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industry Association (JEITA) released statistics on Friday (June 30) that due to the decline in demand in China and the sharp decline in shipments of passive components such as capacitors, the global shipments of Japanese electronic parts factories in April 2023 fell by 4.4% from the same month last year to 330.5 billion yen, falling into contraction for the sixth consecutive month, but monthly shipments exceeded the 300 billion yen mark for the 32nd consecutive month.
In terms of regions, in April, Nippon Factory's electronic parts shipments in Japan increased by 7.3% y/y to 77.1 billion yen, shipments to the Americas fell 3.9% to 38.7 billion yen, shipments to Europe increased by 2.4% to 34.8 billion yen, and shipments to the Chinese market, where electronic equipment assembly plants such as smartphones are concentrated, fell 8.6% to 104.4 billion yen, and shipments to the rest of Asia fell 11.7% to 75.1 billion yen.
In terms of major items, Nippon Factory's passive component shipments in April fell by 12% from the same month last year to 152.7 billion yen. Among them, capacitor shipments fell by 11% to 108.4 billion yen, falling into contraction for the sixth consecutive month, but monthly shipments exceeded the 100 billion yen mark for the 32nd consecutive month. Resistor shipments fell 5% to JPY 15.4 billion, marking the second consecutive month of decline, transformer shipments increased 7% to JPY 4.3 billion, and inductor shipments decreased 15% to JPY 21.7 billion.
Shipments of Japanese connectors fell 9% to 44.9 billion yen in April, marking the sixth consecutive month of contraction; Shipments of Switch components, including touch panels, increased 3% to JPY 31.2 billion. Shipments of actuators used in smartphones, cameras, and other applications increased by 15% to JPY 33.5 billion. Shipments of radio frequency (RF) parts, including TV tuners, filters and wireless modules, decreased by 9% to JPY 23 billion.
