The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) recently announced that global semiconductor industry sales totaled $41.3 billion in January 2023, down 18.5% from $50.7 billion in January 2022 and down 5.2% from $43.6 billion in December 2022. It also exhibited regional imbalances.

Monthly sales are compiled by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) and represent a three-month moving average. By revenue, SIA represents 99 percent of the U.S. semiconductor industry and nearly two-thirds of non-U.S. chip companies.
"Despite record sales in 2022, the global semiconductor market cooled significantly in the second half of the year, and that trend continued in the first month of 2023," said John Neuffer, SIA president and CEO. "Despite the current short-term cyclical downturn, the long-term outlook for the semiconductor market remains strong as chips play an increasing role in powering critical technologies of today and tomorrow."
Regionally, monthly sales increased slightly in Europe (0.6 percent) in January, but declined in Japan (-2.1 percent), Asia/Pacific/All Other (-2.7 percent), the Americas (-7.9 percent) and China (-8.0 percent). Year-over-year sales increased slightly in Europe (0.9 percent) and Japan (0.7 percent), but declined in the Americas (-12.4 percent), Asia/Pacific/All Other (-19.5 percent) and China (-31.6 percent).
