SK Hynix Established AI Chip Business Unit AI Infra

        SK hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker, said last Thursday that it has set up a new division, AI Infra, to take charge of artificial intelligence (AI)-related semiconductor business as part of a strategic effort to focus more on high-demand high-end chips, Yonhap news agency reported.
        SK hynix's new AI Infra unit will consolidate high-bandwidth memory (HBM) capabilities scattered across the company, and Kim Juseon, who was in charge of global sales and marketing, will move to head the AI Infra unit, the report said. The GSM division, which previously handled HBM customer communications, will also be integrated into the AI Infra division.
        In addition, the company said it will establish a new strategic unit, the N-S Committee, a group dedicated to strengthening the business in NAND flash memory and solutions and responsible for driving profitability and optimizing the efficiency of resource utilization for products and related projects.
        In a statement, SK hynix said, "This year, we overcame the downturn in the challenging global business environment and proved our technological competitiveness in leading AI memory areas such as HBM." The new AI Infra division, however, aims to strengthen the company's competitiveness in AI technologies and lead innovations that meet customer needs and trends.
        Previously affected by stagnant demand for semiconductors, SK Hynix posted an operating loss for four consecutive quarters, with an operating loss of 1.79 trillion won's in the third quarter (July-September) of this year. But the company also said its losses have been narrowing, benefiting from a recovery in market demand for high-performance products such as artificial intelligence memory HBM3 chips.
