Sources say AMD has transferred some orders for 4nm CPU chips from TSMC to Samsung

It appears that due to capacity problems, the release of laptops equipped with AMD Phoenix series Ryzen 7040 APUs was delayed from March to April, and then delayed until May before they were gradually launched.

According to the whistleblower @OreXda, AMD has signed an agreement with Samsung Electronics to transfer some 4nm processor business from TSMC to Samsung. It is worth mentioning that there is also news that Samsung has begun mass production of the third generation 4nm process to improve yield and energy efficiency. Customers may include Google Tensor G3 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
It is said that TSMC's 4nm production capacity is running at full capacity, and customers such as Apple and Qualcomm also purchase 4nm mobile SoCs on this node, which makes AMD's production capacity allocation and bargaining power in the face of TSMC very limited. The company's Ryzen 7040 series "Phoenix" series mobile processors use the 4nm process and are currently using Samsung's 4nm node design (AMD has five options).
In general, switching to Samsung may bring more scalability to AMD, especially considering that "Phoenix" has been delayed many times, and AMD currently only has the 5nm+ 6nm Ryzen 7045 series "Dragon Range" in the high-end market, while in the mainstream and ultra-portable market only the 6nm 7035 series "Rembrandt-R" is left, but nothing is "suitable" to compete with "Raptor Lake-U" and "Raptor Lake-P".
However, since Intel's 13th generation Core processor is still based on Intel 7 nodes, there is currently no shipping pressure, so foreign media believe AMD may adopt a dual-source strategy like the rumored Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.
