Intel's fourth-generation Xeon scalable processors, code named Sapphire Rapids, have been delayed again and will not ship until the first half of 2023, which will also have a negative impact on Intel's data centre business, but is a good opportunity for AMD.
Although AMD's share price also fell sharply after yesterday's 2Q earnings report due to the decline in the PC market, some Wall Street analysts are still bullish on AMD's growth, giving the company a higher price target and a Hold rating.
Analyst J oseph Moore gave AMD a "Hold" rating and set a price target of $102, citing the current environment and calling AMD's performance and outlook "impressive".
Wells Fargo analyst Aaron Rakers pointed out that AMD's second-quarter results show that the company's current share of the server market is about 20 percent, including about 30 percent of the hyper scale cloud market, and that its share of the traditional enterprise OEM market is likely to continue to grow.
For AMD, the declining PC market is a problem, but in the data centre market, its EPYC processors have strong room for growth. The 7nm EPYC, code named Milan, has already received a large number of orders, and the upcoming 5nm, 96-core Genoa series EPYC will not replace the 64-core Milan series EPYC, but will break into new markets and continue to gain market share .
