On August 21, it was reported that TSMC will invest in the establishment of 2 advanced fabs in Arizona, USA. The first plant has been completed and thousands of advanced precision equipment are being installed. It is expected to mass-produce 4 nanometers by 2025. Process; construction of the second fab is also in progress.

According to Taiwan's "Economic Daily", TSMC's Arizona plant has introduced the local first extreme ultraviolet (EUV) equipment, but there are still 2,000 engineering vacancies. TSMC and its suppliers plan to send hundreds of additional employees from Taiwan to Arizona to speed up the progress of the local plant.
Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix, Arizona, visited TSMC's Arizona plant and said TSMC's investment in Phoenix will make Phoenix the center of the world's most advanced semiconductors, and the most advanced microchips will soon be manufactured in Phoenix. He said that with the continuous and steady development of TSMC's fab construction, Phoenix will support TSMC in recruiting construction and engineering talent, so that this future technology can be realized. TSMC's Arizona plant currently has 12,000 construction personnel on site, but in response to equipment installation needs, suppliers are still recruiting 2,000 sheet metal, electricians and other related engineering personnel locally.
TSMC said it is committed to working with suppliers to create local jobs, while providing an inclusive work environment and striving to build a sustainable supply chain. In July, TSMC announced plans to send more Taiwanese workers to the United States in order to speed up the construction of US factories. However, the move was met with dissatisfaction by local workers in the United States, who believed it would affect their earnings. Several sources have revealed to the US media that TSMC is replacing local American workers by sending employees to Taiwan, or using this as an excuse to cut wages.
TSMC issued a statement in response: "The new plant in the United States is at a critical stage of construction and requires more skilled expertise. As the company is now at a critical stage of handling all state-of-the-art and specialized equipment in a complex facility, we need skilled expertise for specific TSMC Arizona construction activities and temporarily bring selected professionals with extensive E2 visa experience to Arizona to support this work and the rapid development of this project." The statement said that so far, the number of Taiwanese workers traveling to Arizona has not been determined, but they will only stay in Arizona for a limited period of time for this specific construction project, which will not affect the current 12,000 workers, nor will it affect the original recruitment of the US factory.
According to the sources, TSMC and its suppliers are negotiating with the US government to have the US assist in processing nonimmigrant visas. The goal is to send more than 500 experienced employees to the US as soon as July to speed up clean room facilities, pipelines and other equipment installation project.
