Vishay Intertechnology, Inc (NYSE: VSH) announced the availability of the industry's most advanced AEC-Q102 certified linear optocoupler, the VOA300, which offers 5300 Vrms insulation, five times the response rate of competing devices, and improved typical transfer gain stability to ± 0.005 %/°C with single-ended outputs for design flexibility. Single-ended outputs provide design flexibility.
The recently announced automotive-grade devices include AIGaAs infrared LEDs (IRLDs) (feedback isolated light-emitting diodes) and output PIN photodiodes, both in a bifurcated arrangement. The output PIN photodiode produces an output signal that is linearly related to the LED servo luminous flux. Using a PIN photodiode that is matched to accurately track the LED output luminous flux ensures input and output coupling time and temperature stability.
The VOA300 single-ended output can be connected directly to an amplifier or analog-to-digital converter. The photodiodes are specifically designed for electrically isolated current and voltage measurements in electric vehicles (EVs), including on-board chargers (OBCs), traction inverters, and DC/DC converters. The devices provide reliable and fast data transfer at 1.4 MHz for these applications, and their fast response enables rapid detection of battery breaker (electronic fuse) voltage and current fluctuations to protect personnel and vehicle safety.
The linear optocouplers have a typical input and output capacitance of only 1 pF, high gain linearity of ± 0.25 %, and power consumption of less than 15 mW. In addition, the devices operate at temperatures up to +125 °C, making them suitable for harsh industrial environments. The optocouplers are RoHS and Vishay Green compliant and halogen free.
The VOA300 is available for sampling and mass production with a 10-week lead time.
