With a total investment of 50.5 billion yuan, SMIC plans to build a 12-inch wafer foundry production line in Tianjin

China's leading wafer manufacturer SMIC announced that it has entered into and signed the "SMIC Tianjin 12-inch Wafer Foundry Production Line Project Cooperation Framework Agreement" with Tianjin Xiqing Economic Development Group Company Limited and Tianjin Xiqing Economic and Technological Development Area Management Committee to construct a 12-inch wafer foundry production line project.

According to the agreement, the proposed 12-inch foundry production line will have a planned capacity of 100,000 wafers per month and will be able to provide foundry and technology services for different technology nodes from 28nm to 180nm. The products are mainly used in telecommunications, automotive electronics, consumer electronics, industrial and other fields, and will be located in the Xida New Industry Park in the Xiqing Development Zone. At the same time, SMIC will establish a wholly-owned production-type independent legal entity in the Xiqing Development Zone with a registered capital of US$5 billion and a total investment of US$7.5 billion.
the Tianjin Xiqing Economic and Technological Development Area Management Committee have agreed to provide land support, industrial support, talent support, infrastructure support and other support to SMIC.
SMIC undertakes that Xiqing New Company will participate in the bidding of the project site for the construction of the project in accordance with the agreed conditions and procedures. The company also said that the project to be invested in under this agreement is in line with the development plan of the company and will contribute to the long-term development of the company. The project is financed by the company's own funds and self-financing funds, and will not have a significant impact on the company's financial position and operating results, and will not be detrimental to the interests of the listed company and all shareholders.
At home, domestic semiconductor manufacturing companies such as SMIC are significantly expanding their production capacity. Previously, in addition to the continued expansion of existing production lines, SMIC is also building new 12-inch production line projects in Beijing, Shenzhen and Shanghai, and the planned construction of a new wafer line in Tianjin is another new 12-inch production line project for SMIC.
On the same day, SMIC disclosed its half-yearly report, reporting operating revenue of RMB24.592 billion for the first half of 2022, an increase of 52.80% year-on-year; net profit attributable to the mother company of RMB6.252 billion, an increase of 19.30% year-on-year; and basic earnings per share of RMB0.79.
