According to the latest report from market research firm TrendForce, with Server OEMs slowing shipments, SSD purchase orders not seeing a significant recovery and other factors, coupled with a significant reduction in supplier orders for notebooks and smartphones in the second half of 2022, resulting in a steep rise in inventory, Enterprise SSDs turned to be the only outlet for suppliers, causing a significant imbalance between supply and demand. Enterprise SSD prices fell to 25% in the fourth quarter, affecting total Enterprise SSD revenue of only $3.79 billion in the fourth quarter, down 27.4% YoY, and the decline will continue into the first quarter of 2023.

According to the data, Samsung's Enterprise SSD revenue declined to $1.78 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022, but the market share increased to 46.9% as a result of aggressive bargaining for larger shipments. The main reason is that Samsung Enterprise SSD product integrity and technology are in the leading position.
SK Group was mainly affected by the weak performance of the market and the longer-than-expected introduction of new products, with revenue of $720 million and market share declining to 19.0% in the fourth quarter of last year. After the first phase of the merger between SK Hynix and Solidigm, both parties planned to use Solidigm as the main body to develop SSDs and jointly launch Enterprise SSDs with SK hynix 176-layer TLC in 2023, but agencies revealed that the current cooperation plan has changed, which will not be conducive to the mass production schedule of both parties' new products and may impact the subsequent This will not be conducive to the mass production schedule of both parties' new products and may affect the subsequent shipment growth performance. It is estimated that SK Group's market share will increase in 2023 depending on the market's recovery and whether QLC Enterprise SSDs will be adopted by more people to enhance long-term shipping momentum.
WDC has seen significant revenue growth since the second quarter of 2022 due to PCIe SSD shipments into North American server ODM customers, but revenue declined to $490 million in the fourth quarter of last year, also due to a decline in North American procurement capacity. Western Data is limited by limited R&D resources, resulting in Enterprise PCIe 4.0 launch time lagging behind other suppliers, so the future market share increase is still a concern, coupled with the second half of 2023 PCIe 5.0 products will begin to ship with the new platform, Western Data product readiness is slightly less than other suppliers, maintaining revenue and market share performance this year may face challenges.
Kioxia's revenue in the fourth quarter of 2022 benefited from the advantage of being a major SAS supplier, and the unit price of the product was better than the PCIe interface. In addition to continuing to expand the validation of PCIe 4.0 products in the Chinese market and server OEMs, Armorama estimates that PCIe 4.0 shipments will gradually increase in volume in 2023, and Armorama has also mass produced PCIe 5.0 products and is actively seeking cooperation with Server ODM as the products are gradually put in place. Armorite expects to achieve better profit margins by expanding Enterprise SSD revenue, so that it can invest in the development of future NAND Flash processes and plan to catch up with other suppliers' 23X layer NAND Flash production processes in 2024.
Micron's Enterprise SSD product revenue is still dominated by SATA, which is limited by the downward revision of enterprise capital expenditure in the second half of 2022, with revenue falling to $310 million in the fourth quarter. The company's 176-layer PCIe 4.0 product shipments grew at a slightly lower rate than expected. With the increase in customer validation and gradual de-stocking of customer inventory, the second half of 2023 is expected to usher in a wave of 176-layer product releases. At present, Micron is actively developing new generation products such as HBM to keep up with the rise in demand for high-speed computing services such as AI and ML, expand cooperation with Server ODM, and drive Micron's Enterprise SSD carrier rate.
