Recently, Nvidia has had a tough time. In the GPU market for data centers, old rival AMD is becoming more and more competitive. Recently, AMD made a big splash by launching two GPUs, the Instinct MI325X and MI355X, planning to go head-to-head with Nvidia's Hopper H200 and Blackwell B100.

You may not be very familiar with AMD's Instinct series. This is mainly a GPU accelerator launched by AMD for data centers, targeting high-performance computing fields such as artificial intelligence. The MI325X and MI355X launched by AMD this time can be regarded as a comprehensive upgrade in the field of data center GPUs. These two products adopt a brand new design and have a qualitative leap in performance, finally giving AMD the confidence to compete with Nvidia.

Speaking of the competition between AMD and Nvidia, it's really a long story. Nvidia has always been in a leading position in the GPU market, especially in the data center field, where it is like a hegemon. Although AMD also has good products, it always falls short and cannot pose an effective threat to Nvidia. But this time, AMD seems to have really found a breakthrough point.

Let's take a look at the MI325X product first. This GPU adopts AMD's latest CDNA 3 architecture. This is a big guy with as many as 153 billion transistors, much more than the previous MI300X. In terms of performance, the MI325X is also in full bloom. Under FP16 half precision, its floating-point computing performance reaches an astonishing 1,307.4 teraflops. Under FP8 quarter precision, it even soars to 2,614.9 teraflops. This performance is simply explosive!

In addition to performance, the MI325X has also made great efforts in memory and bandwidth. It is equipped with 256GB of HBM3 memory and a bandwidth of up to 6TB/sec. What does this mean? It means that it can process more data at the same time, with higher efficiency and faster speed. For those artificial intelligence applications that need to process large-scale data, this is simply a magic weapon!

Moreover, AMD also announced an exciting news that the MI325X is expected to start shipping at the end of the current quarter, and products from partners will be launched in the first quarter of next year. This timing is really coincidental, just in line with Nvidia's increased pace of producing its Blackwell B100 GPU. It seems that AMD is going to compete head-on with Nvidia for the market.

However, although the MI325X is very powerful, AMD has not stopped. They are still developing more powerful products, that is, the MI350 series GPUs. This series will adopt a brand new CDNA 4 architecture, and the performance will be further improved. And the MI355X is the first product in this series. It is revealed that the performance of the MI355X will be 1.8 times that of the MI325X, and the bandwidth is as high as 14.4TB/sec. This performance is simply skyrocketing!

Speaking of the MI355X, there is an interesting anecdote here. Previously, some people guessed that the MI355X might be inferior to the MI325X in memory configuration. But AMD's CEO Lisa Su clearly stated at the event that the MI355X will be equipped with a larger memory capacity and higher bandwidth to meet the needs of future artificial intelligence applications for big data processing. It seems that AMD has also put in a lot of effort in terms of memory and bandwidth!

However, although AMD has made significant progress in hardware, in terms of the entire system solution, Nvidia still has an advantage. After all, when customers buy GPUs, they often also consider the interconnect, software, and AI frameworks that come with them. In this regard, with years of accumulation, Nvidia has formed a complete ecosystem and attracted a large number of users and developers. Although AMD is also trying to build its own ecosystem, it will take some time to catch up with Nvidia.

However, AMD is not discouraged by this. They know that if they want to gain a firm foothold in the data center GPU market, they must continuously innovate and launch more competitive products. Therefore, in addition to the MI325X and MI355X, AMD is also developing more new products to meet the needs of different users.

Moreover, AMD is also strengthening cooperation with partners to jointly develop new solutions. For example, they are jointly developing a memory interconnect with UALink partners that can be comparable to Nvidia's proprietary NVLink and NVSwitch interconnects. This interconnect technology can greatly improve the communication efficiency between GPUs and thus improve the performance of the entire system. This is a great boon for those users who need to build large-scale GPU clusters!

Of course, Nvidia will not sit still. They are also continuously strengthening their product lines and technology research and development to meet the challenges of AMD. For example, they are constantly upgrading their CUDA framework to improve the programming efficiency and performance of GPUs. At the same time, they are also strengthening cooperation with cloud service providers and data center operators to jointly create more complete solutions.

But then again, the competition between AMD and Nvidia is actually a good thing for the entire technology circle. Because only competition can promote technological progress and innovation. Just like the competition between AMD and Nvidia in the GPU field, their continuous competition not only makes their products more excellent but also improves the technological level of the entire industry. This is a great benefit for users!

Moreover, this competition also promotes the development of the entire industrial chain. For example, as AMD and Nvidia continue to compete in the GPU field, more and more manufacturers are beginning to enter this field.

They not only provide more diverse product choices but also promote the development and improvement of the entire industrial chain through technological innovation and industrial upgrading. This is a significant contribution to the entire technology circle!

So, SIC thinks that the competition between AMD and Nvidia is actually like a war without gunsmoke. Although on the surface they are competing for market share and user resources, in fact, they are promoting the development and progress of the entire technology circle. This kind of competition not only makes each other stronger but also makes the entire industry more prosperous.

Of course, in addition to AMD and Nvidia, there are many other manufacturers also making efforts in the data center GPU market. For example, Intel is continuously strengthening its GPU product line and technology research and development. They hope to occupy a place in this field through their own efforts and innovation.

However, to be honest, it is not so easy for Intel to gain a firm foothold in this field. After all, these two bigwigs, AMD and Nvidia, are not to be trifled with. They have strong technical strength and ecosystems. If you want to compete with them, you must have some real skills!

However, WLS thinks that Intel doesn't need to worry too much. After all, they also have their own advantages and specialties. For example, they have rich experience and strength in the processor field. If they can deeply integrate and optimize processors and GPUs, then maybe they can create more excellent products!

But then again, the competition in the data center GPU market is really a long story. Various manufacturers and technologies are emerging in an endless stream. If you want to gain a firm foothold in this field, you must always be vigilant and innovative!

So, WLS  thinks that whether it is AMD, Nvidia, or other manufacturers, they should take a long-term view. Don't just focus on immediate market share and user resources. Pay more attention to technological innovation and progress. Only in this way can they be invincible in this ever-changing technological era!

Of course, in addition to technological innovation and progress, WLS thinks that these manufacturers should also pay more attention to user needs and experiences. After all, users are the ones who ultimately determine the market trend. If you can meet user needs and experiences, then you can win the favor and trust of users!
