AMD (AMD. US) released the latest data center chip Genoa on Thursday, and said that Microsoft (MSFT. US) Azure, Alphabet (GOOG. US) Google Cloud and Oracle (ORCL. US) are its customers. Lisa Su, president of AMD, said that the fourth generation EPYC processor, code named "Genoa", had significantly improved in performance and energy efficiency compared with the previous chips.

Lisa Su said, "This means lower capital expenditure, lower operating costs and lower total cost of ownership for enterprises and cloud data centers."
When AMD released its chip Genoa, competitor Intel (INTC. US) postponed the mass production plan of its latest data center chip Sapphire Rapids.
AMD launched the first EPYC data center chip in 2017. The company has been nibbling at Intel's market share, especially in the cloud service field.
According to IDC data, AMD's market share of chips for cloud services based on x86 architecture rose from zero in 2016 to about 29% last year. Ashish Nadkarni, IDC data center and cloud analyst, said: "It is expected that AMD will continue on the right track and continue to expand the market share of public cloud deployment."
By the end of the US stock market on Thursday, AMD and NVDA. US had risen by more than 14%, Intel by more than 8%, and Philadelphia Semiconductor Index by more than 10%. Inflation in the United States slowed more than expected, and many Fed officials expressed support for slowing interest rate hikes, boosting market sentiment.
