Automotive chips remain short! Toyota announced continued production cuts in December: Three plants in Japan will be temporarily shut down for 1-4 day

        On November 24, Toyota announced that it will continue to reduce production in December due to a continued shortage of chips, with an estimated global production of about 750,000 units (about 250,000 units in Japan and 500,000 units overseas), a decrease of about 6% compared to last December's production of more than 800,000 units.

        Toyota pointed out that in December, all 14 plants in Japan 28 production lines, including 3 plants 4 production lines will be temporarily shut down, the number of days of downtime for 1 to 4 days. 
        Toyota said that its original plan for October to December global monthly average production of about 850,000 units, the latest December production plan is about 100,000 units less than the estimated value.
        It is worth noting that Toyota announced on November 1, due to chip shortages, so this year (April 2022 to March 2023) global production target (Toyota / Lexus brand) from 9.7 million units down 5% to 9.2 million units, an annual increase of 7%.
        Toyota also lowered its global new vehicle sales target (including Hino and Daihatsu) by 2.8% from 10.7 million units to 10.4 million units this year. The target was revised down 9.7% from 3.07 million units to 2.773 million units.
        In terms of the breakdown of electrified models, Toyota's sales target for this year was revised down 7.8% to 2.623 million units from 2.485 million units for HV, 30.4% to 87,000 units from 125,000 units for PHV, 38.9% to 58,000 units from 95,000 units for EV, and 0.5 million units for FCV (the same level as last year).
