Omdia: Q3 2022 Samsung Electronics semiconductor business revenue at $14.6bn, down 28.1% YoY

        According to the latest data from market research firm Omdia, Samsung Electronics, the largest memory chip maker, lost its global semiconductor sales crown after its revenue plunged in the third quarter.
 
        From the data, Samsung Electronics semiconductor business revenue in the third quarter of $ 14.6 billion, far less than the previous quarter of $ 20.3 billion, down 28.1 percent from the previous quarter.
        Intel, on the other hand, sat on the throne of global semiconductor sales, before that, Samsung Electronics beat Intel for four consecutive quarters to win the global semiconductor market revenue first.  
        Intel's revenue in the third quarter also fell sharply year-on-year, but their $14.851 billion in semiconductor revenue was only slightly lower than the $14.865 billion in the previous quarter and higher than Samsung Electronics' $14.6 billion.
        Apart from Samsung Electronics and Intel, other semiconductor vendors did not fare as well, with Qualcomm in third place with sales of US$9.9 billion, up 5.6% compared to the previous quarter.
        SK Hynix fell to fourth place from third place in the previous quarter, with sales down by more than 26 per cent. Following Hynix was Broadcom, which increased by 5.9 per cent sequentially to US$6.946 billion from US$6.561 billion in the previous quarter.
 
The memory market is said to have weakened as a result of declining demand for consumer electronics, leading to a decline in net profits for semiconductor manufacturers, which is expected to continue for some time.
