BYD's semiconductor research road took 13 years to successfully break through high-end chips

        The scope of semiconductors is very wide. Mobile phones, computers, TVs, etc. all need to use chips. At the same time, when major technology giants deploy in the automotive industry, they also need to use a large number of chip processors. However, there are very few domestic companies that can independently develop automotive chips and manufacture IGBT modules. Among them, BYD Semiconductor successfully created high-end chips.
 
 
        In the impression of many people, BYD is just a car manufacturer. If you only make cars, you will underestimate BYD too much. Looking at the domestic technology field, BYD plays an increasingly important role, and many key areas are supported by BYD. BYD has long realized the importance of chips and established a research and development department in vehicle-grade power semiconductors, but it is not enough. The development of new energy electric vehicles also requires the support of IGBT modules (insulated gate bipolar transistors). IGBT is mainly used for voltage control and current processing. It is the CPU of electronic devices and is currently widely used in high-speed rail and new energy vehicles.
        There are only two domestic companies that can produce IGBT chip modules, one is CRRC, and the other is BYD. Our CRRC's IGBTs are mainly used for high-speed rail, so BYD is also the only manufacturer in the domestic new energy vehicle field that can manufacture IGBTs. Overall, BYD Semiconductor has also participated in the R&D and production of intelligent control ICs and optoelectronic semiconductors, as well as in-depth exploration of silicon carbide and DM control modules. After years of layout, BYD Semiconductor has integrated the IDM production model of chip design, manufacturing and packaging. From the design of the chip to the landing application, BYD can complete it by itself. With the support of a large number of core technologies, BYD Semiconductor has become a leader in our automotive industry.
In addition, BYD has announced that it will abandon the production of traditional fuel vehicles and fully switch to new energy vehicles. By the fourth quarter, BYD will also release high-end car brands priced at more than 1 million yuan. This means that BYD needs to comprehensively enhance its industrial strength in semiconductors and complete the transformation to a high-end car brand. Since it is a high-end car brand, high-end chips are definitely a must. The good news is that BYD has successfully broken through high-end chips, and its IGBT manufacturing technology has officially moved towards 6.0.
        Since BYD launched its first IGBT in 2009, BYD has insisted on independent research and development to break the core technology. In 2018, it was upgraded to the IGBT4.0 process, and now BYD has brought the IGBT6.0 high-end chip, and its performance has reached the world's leading level. It took BYD 13 years to get to this point. If you count the history of BYD's involvement in the semiconductor field, it can be traced back to 2002, which means that BYD has been developing semiconductors for 20 years, and it is a well-deserved domestic giant.
