Cisco Introduced New AI Network Chips

        According to Reuters, Cisco last week launched a new network switch chip for AI servers to compete with Broadcom and Meiman Electronics. The series of chips is called "SiliconOne", and Cisco said that five of the world's leading cloud service providers are currently testing this chip, which is expected to include Amazon AWS, Microsoft, Google and so on.
        Nowadays, artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT are becoming more and more popular, and large model computing requires a large number of GPUs to provide computing power, and how to integrate these GPUs to provide high-speed communication bandwidth has become extremely important. As the world's leading supplier of network equipment, Cisco has a variety of switch products for carrier networks, traditional server rooms, and daily office use.
        Cisco's latest switch models equipped with SiliconOne chips are G200 and G202, which double the performance of the previous generation and support up to 32,000 GPUs for networking. Rakesh Chopra, a Cisco researcher and former principal engineer, said that the G200 and G202 will become the most powerful network switches on the market, powering artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads to form energy-efficient networks. In terms of performance, Cisco says the chip can help AI/ML tasks reduce additional switching by 40%, lower latency, and more power saving.
