As NVIDIA and AMD increase their research and development investment in next-generation AI accelerators, and with the continuous demand for high-performance chips in the smartphone chip market, TSMC's 3nm process technology is expected to receive a large number of orders in 2025. Industry observers foresee that within the next year, most high-end smartphones will shift to adopt the more advanced 3nm manufacturing process.
In particular, it is rumored that Apple plans to use TSMC's N3P process technology in its next-generation A19 Pro chip. In addition, it is expected that Android device manufacturers will also follow in Apple's footsteps and choose the same advanced manufacturing technology. This transformation not only symbolizes technological progress but also drives the entire industry to develop in the direction of higher efficiency and lower energy consumption.
In terms of market demand for AI accelerators, AMD's MI350 series products are likely to also adopt the 3nm process. At the recent "Advancing AI 2024" conference, AMD's CEO Lisa Su emphasized the close cooperation with TSMC and welcomed the support of the CHIPS Act to move more production lines back to the United States. Currently, AMD has no plans to cooperate with other chip manufacturers other than TSMC and is conducting in-depth quality evaluations of TSMC's wafer fab in Arizona.
At the same time, NVIDIA's reliance on TSMC is expected to deepen further next year, which is expected to put even greater pressure on TSMC's production capacity in 3nm and 5nm processes. NVIDIA plans to launch the R series GPU using TSMC's 3nm process in 2026.
Looking ahead to 2025, it is expected that the demand for TSMC's 3nm products from Intel, MediaTek, and other technology giants will also increase sharply. Intel plans to outsource the production of most of its Lunar Lake chips to TSMC. The AI PC chip jointly developed by MediaTek and NVIDIA is rumored to use the 3nm process. It is expected that this chip will be exhibited for the first time in the second quarter of next year and start mass production in the third quarter.
