Global Foundry to Decline 9% by 2023

According to industry information, as the geopolitical situation and global inflation and other factors continue to intensify, resulting in a plunge in sales of consumer electronics products, which in turn has led to a decline in semiconductor sales and weakening demand for chips, industry research firm DIGITIMES Research expects global foundry industry revenue to decline by 9.2% in 2023.

According to the market and supply chain feedback, the first half of 2023 inventory adjustment time is longer than expected, and weak chip demand poses a challenge to the global foundry revenue outlook. Industry analyst Eric-Chen stressed that although the AI boom is boosting the high-performance computing market, the overall demand for foundries remains subdued due to the global economic slowdown.
Industry analyst Eric-Chen believes that while the electronics supply chain is expected to return to balance in the second half of 2023, it has yet to see significant activation in material readiness for typical peak seasons, and the trend toward remote working has driven strong sales of consumer electronics since the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, declines in smartphone, PC and laptop shipments in 2022, and only server demand will see healthy growth from large data center operators, with semiconductor chipmakers seeking to reduce capex and production in 2023 as part of their decision to market and economic downside, will also lead to an expected continued decline in shipments in all four of these product categories.
