On the morning of June 6, it was reported that Apple announced at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) early this morning that the upcoming Mac Pro computer will be equipped with its new generation of the strongest self-developed chip M2 Ultra, which means the "CPU self-developed switch". The strategic task is fully completed. Affected by the bad news, the stock price of Intel, Apple's traditional computer processor supplier, fell sharply on Monday.

Jennifer Munn, Apple's director of engineering and technology program management, showed off the M2 Ultra, which is three times faster overall than the Mac Pro with Intel processors. Munn called the M2 Ultra a "chip monster." Apple's self-developed processor strategy began in 2020, when the company released its first processor, the M1. In 2021, Gregory Bryant, a former Intel executive, pointed out that Apple is a completely different competitor in the world of computer processors.
Bryant said that what Apple brought to the market was not just a Central Processor chip, but more importantly its developer ecosystem, a fusion of third-party developers and application software that has been successfully implemented on Apple smartphones and tablets. Apple will continue this ecosystem with personal computers, a trend that is inevitable. Apple executives said Mac Pro laptops with the new processors are equipped with 192GB of memory and start at $6,999.
Intel has long dominated the processor market, but now its position is in jeopardy. In addition to Apple, old rival AMD (117.93, 0.07, 0.06%) is expanding its market share in PCs and data center server processors. In addition, Nvidia chips, the hegemon in the field of graphics processing units, are popular among enterprise customers for the artificial intelligence big language model that is popular at runtime.
According to a report by Gartner, a U.S. technology market research firm, Apple had a 9.3 percent share of the global PC market in Q1 this year. But overall, the global PC market has been shrinking across the board, with annual shipments plummeting at a rate of 30%. In the first quarter of this year, Apple's PC business earned $7.17 billion in sales, down 31 percent year-on-year. Intel shares fell 4.63 percent on Monday to close at $29.86 a share. Intel's current market capitalization is $124.50 billion.
