Global semiconductor companies will invest more than $80 billion in R & D in 2022

        On May 5, IC Insights reported that global semiconductor companies are expected to grow 13 percent to a record $71.4 billion in 2021, to $80.4 billion in 2022.Total R & D spending is expected to grow to $108.6 billion at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between 2022 and 2026.
 
 
        The data also showed that Intel spent $15.2 billion in research and development in 2021, or about 19 percent of total vendor spending, reflecting the company's intention to accelerate its technology architecture and process iteration. 
        With Samsung ranked second in r & D spending, up 13% to an estimated $6.5 billion in 2021, the South Korean memory giant has accelerated its R & D spending on cutting-edge logic processes (5nm and below) to strengthen its competition with contract manufacturing market leader TSMC.This was followed by TSMC, which increased its R & D spending by 20% to about $4.5 billion in 2021, after a 26% increase in 2020.
