Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) has launched the next generation of its dual-channel electrically isolated EiceDRIVER™ gate driver IC product family.

With multiple under voltage lockout (UVLO) threshold options and isolation levels and unused packaging technology, this product family offers a complete solution for a variety of applications. The new portfolio combines robust isolation technology that meets the latest industry standards with excellent electrical parameters for efficient, reliable operation over a wide operating temperature range and extended device life. The family of drivers is versatile and suitable for a variety of applications such as server and telecom SMPS, solar inverters and energy storage systems, motor drive and battery-powered applications, electric vehicle charging, and high-performance computing.
Compared with its predecessor, the new generation EiceDRIVER introduces a DSO 14-pin package that increases the creepage distance between channels; at the same time, the built-in dead time control and breakdown protection also shorten UVLO start-up time. The new generation EiceDRIVER features robust isolation technology that meets the industry's latest device level isolation standards (VDE 0884-11, IEC 60747-17). In addition, the driver series is available in a highly compact LGA 4x4 mm2 package, saving up to 36% space in low-voltage applications. One of the key improvements and upgrades the developers have made to the next generation of EiceDRIVER is the integration of electrical isolation technology in the gate driver ICs, which is now IEC 60747-17 certified. The IEC 60747-17 certification means that these products can have a service life of 20 years and meet the requirements of the highest safety standards.
The shorter UVLO start-up time (2μs instead of 5μs) speeds up the SMPS start-up and avoids saturation of the main power transformer. In addition, the new generation IC has a special output clamp circuit that enables active output clamp function, which quickly suppresses output noise even when the channel is "not working". This versatile approach prevents dangerous half-bridge pass-through events during bootstrapping when the gate driver power supply is still below the UVLO turn-on threshold.
The new generation of gate driver ICs has configurable breakdown protection (STP) and dead time control (DTC) built into the hardware. These two features provide further protection as a second level of safety mechanism, ensuring that the gate driver ICs can operate safely and reliably. In addition, the innovative package design removes unused or previously referred to as "connectionless" pins, improving the level of isolation between channels and the flexibility of PCB layout, thus reducing the difficulty for designers to develop circuits.
