Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger announced "IDM 2.0" in March 2021, the new strategy to build a world-class Intel Foundry Services (IFS) is an important part of it. To this end, Intel also acquired Israeli semiconductor maker Tower Semiconductor for $53 per share in cash, for a total of about $5.4 billion, in order to expand its production capacity and foundry scope in a short period of time.

Despite Intel's ambition, its foundry service plans seem to be progressing slowly over the past year or so. According to The Register, Intel Foundry Services President Randhir Thakur has resigned, but will not leave yet until the first quarter of 2023 to ensure a smooth transition of work with the new leader.
Pat Kirsinger sent an email to the company's employees thanking Randhir Thakur for his contributions to Intel's foundry services and for playing an important role in the IDM 2.0 strategy. In addition to being responsible for the acquisition of Tower Semiconductor, Randhir Thakur also played an important role in working with chip makers such as MediaTek, and Intel won a contract for the U.S. Department of Defense's Rapid Assurance Microelectronics Prototyping - Commercial Program (RAMP-C) program.
Intel foundry services still have a long way to go, in Intel's 2025 process roadmap can be understood, the process nodes involved to a large extent in line with the process used in its chips, for Intel as an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) is beneficial, but it is difficult to convince other chip companies to adopt a large number of. In the third quarter of 2022, Intel Foundry Services Division revenue of $ 171 million, only 1.1% of Intel's quarterly revenue, the share also does not look like much.
