Intel reports revenue of $11.7 billion in Q1 2023, down 36% year-over-year

Intel today announced the company's fiscal first quarter 2023 financial results. Intel reported first quarter revenue of $11.7 billion, down 36 percent from $18.4 billion in the prior year quarter, and a net loss of $2.8 billion, compared to net income of $8.1 billion in the prior year quarter, and an adjusted non-GAAP net loss of $0.2 billion, compared to adjusted non-GAAP net income of $3.6 billion in the prior year quarter.
By segment, Intel's Customer Computing Group reported first quarter net revenue of $5,767 million, compared to $9,322 million in the prior year quarter, a 38 percent decrease from the prior year quarter, and operating profit of $520 million, compared to operating profit of $2,722 million in the prior year quarter. Revenue from the desktop business was $1,879 million, compared to $2,641 million in the prior year period; revenue from the notebook business was $3,407 million, compared to $5,959 million in the prior year period; and revenue from other businesses was $481 million, compared to $722 million in the prior year period.
Intel Data Center and Artificial Intelligence Group revenue for the first quarter was $3,718 million, compared to $6,074 million in the prior year quarter, a decrease of 39 percent, and an operating loss of $518 million, compared to an operating profit of $1,393 million in the prior year quarter.
Intel Networking and Edge Group revenue for the first quarter was $1,489 million, compared to $2,139 million in the prior year period, a decrease of 30 percent, and an operating loss of $300 million, compared to an operating profit of $416 million in the prior year period.
Mobileye, Intel's autonomous driving division, reported first quarter revenue of $458 million, compared to $394 million in the prior year quarter, an increase of 16 percent, and operating profit of $123 million, compared to operating profit of $148 million in the prior year quarter.
Intel Foundry Services revenue for the first quarter was $118 million, compared to $156 million in the prior year quarter, a decrease of 24 percent, and an operating loss of $140 million, compared to an operating loss of $23 million in the prior year quarter.
Intel's first quarter revenue from all other businesses was $165 million, compared to $268 million in the prior year quarter, and operating loss was $1,153 million, compared to an operating loss of $315 million in the prior year quarter.
Intel expects revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2023 to be between $11.5 billion and $12.5 billion, compared to an average outlook of $12 billion, beating analysts' expectations.
