Ambarella, the edge AI semiconductor company, and Kodiak Robotics, a self-driving vehicle company focused on trucking and defense, announced that Kodiak has selected Ambarella's CV3-AD685 AI Domain Control System integrated chip (SoC) as a complete embedded computing solution for its next-generation self-driving vehicles.

The SoC provides a complete embedded solution for Kodiak's multi-sensor sensing, fusion and path planning, running neural networks while processing data from multiple cameras, LIDAR and radar.
Building on the success of their current partnership, Kodiak has driven more than 300,000 miles on Amba's CV2 AI-aware SoC while delivering more than 875 loads, demonstrating that Kodiak Driver can withstand the rigors of highway trucking with Amba hardware. This CV2 delivers superior image quality in rain, fog and darkness, ensuring that Kodiak delivers its customers' goods safely and on time.
Kodiak's next-generation self-driving truck platform will leverage the CV3-AD685 SoC to optimize hardware cost, reliability, size and robustness while improving safety and performance. This 5nm SoC is designed to deliver a high-performance computing solution in the smallest form factor, in line with Ampac's "algorithm first" philosophy, enabling Kodiak's modular self-driving vehicle platform hardware to adapt to a wide range of environmental conditions.
The CV3-AD685 enables Kodiak Driver, Kodiak's autonomous driving system, to turn sensor data into actionable insights with lower latency, lower power consumption, and higher reliability," said Don Burnette, founder and CEO of Kodiak. This is the second year we have been invited by Amba to showcase the Kodiak self-driving truck in Amba's CES booth, for which we are honored, and which will demonstrate our partnership's mission to further advance automated trucking."
Fermi Wang, President and CEO of Amba, said, "We are excited to continue our partnership with Kodiak to pave the way for the future of self-driving trucking. Our CV3-AD685 SoC delivers superior processing performance for the self-driving automotive industry to set new benchmarks in AI-based self-driving safety, efficiency and innovation."
The Ambarella CV3-AD685 AI domain controller offers a unique combination of efficient AI processing, advanced image signal processing and ultra-low power consumption. Its next-generation CVflow® AI engine includes the new Neural Vector Processor engine, which is 20x faster than the previous-generation CV2 SoC, as well as the General Purpose Vector Processor, which delivers the overall performance required for a fully automated driving stack.
