Tessenderlo, Belgium - Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, recently announced the release of the LED driver chip MLX81143, a new addition to the MeLiBu® product family. The MLX81143 offers a very wide dimming range for excellent brightness regulation both during the day and at night, and the MeLiBu® interface supports driving up to 3000 LEDs simultaneously in the vehicle, providing dynamic safety alerts and enhanced communication between the vehicle and the driver.

Automakers are now using dynamic lighting in vehicles to communicate important information such as driver assistance alerts and vehicle status updates. Color changes and various flashing sequences can enhance the information that requires the driver's attention.      However, this also poses engineering challenges, such as the need to keep all LED colors consistent and ensure they change simultaneously.
The MLX81143 addresses these challenges by integrating the Melexis CAN over UART MeLiBu® (royalty-free) solution. This high-speed communication interface allows individual LEDs to be controlled separately to achieve the lighting effects defined by the vehicle system. The intelligent RGB-LED controller also provides real-time compensation for any color deviations caused by environmental changes, with a color mixing accuracy of less than 1%, ensuring that there are no significant differences between LEDs.
MeLiBu technology has been adopted by several multinational automotive manufacturers. the MeLiBu communication interface is based on the CAN-FD physical layer and provides stable and reliable performance at speeds up to 2 Mbit. Combining UART with the MeLiBu (CAN-FD) protocol enables intelligent, high-resolution operation while reducing temperature-related color deviations, helping to provide a consistent, distraction-free user experience under all operating conditions.
The MLX81143 is AEC-Q100 certified and ASIL compliant. The chip meets ISO 26262 functional safety requirements to achieve ASIL B. The MLX81143's architecture helps designers meet EMC requirements. At the same time, the chip has low EMI emissions and high immunity to EMI interference.
"The MLX81143 is the third Melexis product to integrate MeLiBu. This technology enables scalable solutions for lighting systems and new application capabilities," said Michael Bender, product line manager for embedded lighting at Melexis. for each application. In addition, the product integrates intelligent options that can also help customers
