MicroNova partners with Texas Instruments to advance battery management system technology

        Software and systems provider MicroNova has reportedly announced enhancements to its NovaCarts Cell Module Controller (CMC) emulator to support Texas Instruments' (TI) latest high-precision battery monitor and balancer, the BQ79718-Q1, for easier and faster testing of battery management systems (BMS). The BQ79718-Q1 device is a monitoring, balancing and protection unit for battery modules in a high-voltage BMS.
 
 
        The NovaCarts CMC emulator features a daisy-chained communication interface to a bridge device on the BMS motherboard or master control unit (MCU), ensuring accurate timing and high-performance emulation. Engineers involved in BMS system development and testing can also combine multiple CMC emulators to simulate batteries with multiple cells. 
        With TI's BQ79718-Q1 battery monitor and balancer, automakers can maximize the true range of their EVs with highly accurate battery voltage measurements down to 1 mV," said Sam Wong, vice president and general manager of TI's battery management solutions. Together with the NovaCarts CMC emulator, the BQ79718-Q1 can be an efficient way for engineers to prototype BMS and speed time to market."
