According to the data updated by IC Insights in the McClean Report 2022 on Tuesday, NOR Flash accounted for only 4% of the total Flash Market in 2021. However, the sales of NOR Flash products soared 63% to $2.9 billion, the shipment of NOR Flash increased by 33% and the average selling price increased by 23%. The agency is optimistic that the NOR Flash market will grow by another 21% to US $3.5 billion in 2022.
The NOR Flash market is dominated by three manufacturers, Huabang Power, Wanghong and Zhaoyi Innovation, with a total market share of 91%. The agency pointed out that last year, the sales volume of Huabang NOR Flash reached 1 billion US dollars, with the highest market share of 35%. Since 2011, Huabang Power has adopted the 58nm process to produce most NOR products, but in 2021, most of them have switched to the 40nm process.
Wanghong Electronics ranked second with a sales volume of USD 942million in NOR flash, accounting for 33% of the nor market share. Nor flash accounted for 52% of Wanghong Electronics' total IC sales in 2021. Communication, automotive and industrial / medical applications were the main growth drivers of Wanghong Electronics' nor flash business last year. Last year, all NOR Flash of Wanghong Electronics was basically produced by 75Nm and 55nm processes, but in the second quarter of this year, the company began to transition to 45nm processes. Zhaoyi Innovation, which ranks third, accounted for 23.2% of the market last year, mainly benefited from the sharp increase in vehicle demand, which led to the doubling of NOR Flash sales. It is expected that it will continue to rise this year.
It is reported that although NOR Flash is not a strong competitor for most new mass storage applications, it is still a useful and reliable memory choice for code storage and many low-end embedded applications. In addition, NOR Flash is also part of the Internet of Things (IOT) application market, including many new healthcare products that provide remote diagnosis and monitoring.
