Omdia: AMOLED display driver chip shipments are expected to increase by 14% year-on-year this year

        Omdia's latest report shows that OLED display panel shipments in 2022 are still down 6% year-on-year, while OLED display driver chip (DDIC) shipments are down 5% year-on-year. The report pointed out that in 2023, with the recovery of demand for smartphones, smart watches, OLED TVs, portable computers, etc., AMOLED DDIC shipments are expected to increase by 14% year-on-year to reach 1.16 billion.
        Omdia expects AMOLED penetration to reach 30% of total display panels by 2029, and AMOLED DDIC shipments will increase from 1 billion in 2022 to 2.2 billion in 2029, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12%. Among them, smartphones are the largest app store for AMOLED DDICs. Omdia data shows that smartphone DDIC shipments will account for 64% of the AMOLED DDIC market by 2022. Thanks to the recovery in demand for AMOLED smartphone display panels, AMOLED smartphone DDIC shipments are expected to increase by 12% year over year in 2023. In addition, large-size OLED DDIC shipments will increase by 22% year-on-year in 2023, reaching 250.1 million pieces.
        According to the Omdia report, smartwatches are another important segment of the AMOLED DDIC market. Shipments of AMOELD smartwatch DDICs are expected to increase by 11% to 164 million by 2023. Elsewhere, OLED TV DDIC shipments are expected to increase 16% year-on-year in 2023, reaching 144 million. Meanwhile, tablet and notebook OLED DDIC shipments will reach 37 million and 58 million, up 31% and 49%, respectively.
