Onsemi (NASDAQ: ON), a leader in smart power and smart sensing technologies, introduced a breakthrough simulation tool for its EliteSiC silicon carbide (SiC) product family and its applications. The new Elite Power Simulator online simulation tool and PLECS model self-generation tool enable engineers to gain valuable reference information through system-level simulation of complex power electronics applications at an early stage in the development cycle. These tools provide cutting-edge, accurate simulation data, allowing customers to select EliteSiC products based on application requirements without the costly and time-consuming hardware manufacturing and testing, saving power electronics engineers time.
The Elite Power Simulator simulation tool, in conjunction with the PLECS model self-service generation tool, gives customers the freedom and flexibility to create high-fidelity system-level PLECS models. Whether customers upload PLECS self-service models to ON Semiconductor's Elite Power Simulator simulation tool or download them for direct use, they provide the optimized performance and accuracy required for demanding power electronics simulations. These models are generated based on typical or worst-case operating conditions, enabling customers to conform their designs to technical boundaries. The ability to define parasitic parameters for specific applications ensures that the generated PLECS models provide highly accurate results for customers' system-level simulations.

Jost Allmelling, co-founder and general manager of Plexim, said, "Our PLECS simulation tool has been very popular with power supply designers for its speed and ease of use. It is particularly exciting to see these real innovations, including the ability to accurately simulate soft-switching applications, customized models via ON Semiconductor's PLECS model self-generation tool, and existing models for boundary conditions."
To date, system-level simulation tools and associated PLECS models have only been available for hard-switching topology simulations, as the simulation results are highly inaccurate for soft-switching applications such as LLC (inductor-inductor-capacitor) or CLLC (capacitor-inductor-inductor-capacitor). ON Semiconductor's industry-leading PLECS model breaks this bottleneck and solves this challenge for customers.
ON Semiconductor's SiC simulation tool is a significant advancement for the industry, accelerating soft/hard switching designs to market," said Asif Jakwani, senior vice president and general manager of the Advanced Power Division, Power Solutions at ON Semiconductor. Our tools enable customers to understand how our devices will perform in their application environments and fully optimize performance to meet technology boundaries."
