Qualcomm announces acquisition of Israeli automotive chipmaker Autotalks

        On May 8, Qualcomm announced that it had reached a definitive agreement to acquire Israeli automotive chipmaker Autotalks to deepen its presence in the automotive industry. However, the parties to the deal did not announce the exact amount of the transaction.
 
 
        According to Qualcomm, Autotalks is a fabless semiconductor company that has been working on V2X communication technology since 2009. The company offers automotive-compliant, dual-mode global V2X solutions that are compatible with multiple V2X standards and are designed to reduce collisions and improve mobility. 
        Qualcomm said Autotalks' expertise and industry-leading products will be combined with Qualcomm's 20 years of automotive industry experience and commitment to V2X, designed to help accelerate the development and adoption of V2X solutions that improve traffic efficiency and enable driver and road user safety. 
        Through this acquisition, Autotalks' production-ready, dual-mode standalone safety solutions will be incorporated into Qualcomm's expanding Snapdragon Digital Chassis portfolio of cloud-connected automotive platforms.
        The automotive market has become a key growth area for chipmakers as the number of chips required by automakers increases dramatically with the proliferation of electric vehicles and increased vehicle automation capabilities. Nakul Duggal, senior vice president of automotive at Qualcomm Technologies, said in a statement, "We have been investing in V2X research, development and deployment since 2017 and believe that as the automotive market matures, there will be a need for standalone V2X safety architectures and intelligent transportation systems to improve safety for road users."
