According to Korean media ET News, Qualcomm confirmed cooperation with Samsung and LG to develop XR devices. Among other things, both Samsung and LG are building XR headsets based on Qualcomm chips. The report notes that "Korea's representative electronics company will challenge the XR industry, which is on fire due to Apple's Vision Pro."

While Qualcomm has earlier mentioned its partnership with Samsung, this is the first time they have confirmed LG's entry. However, no further information was given by any of the companies involved. Qualcomm XR head Si Hongguo said, "Although we cannot disclose the details, we are working with Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics."
It is worth mentioning that Qualcomm also said that it will release a new XR chip in Q1 2024. Si Hongguo noted, "We plan to release the next-generation XR chip in the first quarter of next year." This heralds the launch of a third-generation XR-specific chip that is more advanced than the one that currently powers the Meta Quest 3. A report by ET News notes that Qualcomm's third-generation XR-specific chip is expected to be enhanced in terms of image-processing and AI performance, as well as see-through effects, when compared to the second generation.
Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics are expected to use Qualcomm's third-generation XR-specific chips as the basis for building XR devices that compete with the Meta Quest or Apple Vision Pro, ET News noted. In particular, LG Electronics has indicated that it will cooperate with Qualcomm in the field of glasses-format devices. Hongguo Si commented, "For virtual reality or augmented reality devices, 2024 will be the year of official growth and is expected to continue to grow for the next 2 to 5 years."
